Members of the Crime Prevention and Community OutReach and Engagement (CORE) Team proactively engage the campus community in order to reduce crime and create a safer environment. We offer a range of services to educate students, faculty, and staff including bicycle and property registration, and safety classes. Members of the CORE Team use a combination of foot patrol, bicycles, and all-terrain vehicles to provide a highly visible presence in and around the campus, enabling them to initiate interactions and respond to calls regardless of location or terrain.

The CORE Team also creates multiple opportunities for the campus to connect informally with GTPD. Conversational events include

  • Coffee with a Cop - free coffee breaks for students that ar especially appreciated during exams
  • Pops with a Cop - a similar program involving popsicles during hot weather months
  • Safe "Sting" Break - promoting alcohol and drug safety awareness before Spring Break, in partnership with the Georgia Tech Interfraternity Council
  • Adopt a Cop - pairing sworn officers with specific campus organizations and departments to address their specific needs

The CORE Team also coordinates community service projects such as care packages for the homeless, a Christmas party at the local Our House family shelter, and the "See Something, Say Something" community recognition program.
